About the Role
A premier, ENR400-ranked commercial general contractor and real estate development firm is seeking a visionary, growth-oriented Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to steer financial strategy and protect long-term fiscal stability. Reporting directly to the President/CEO, you will act as a core strategic partner to the executive leadership team, overseeing corporate financial planning, multi-location construction accounting, treasury, and risk management. This role plays a pivotal part in guiding project proformas, capital allocation, and equity/lender relationships for the highly integrated Real Estate Development division.
Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership & Real Estate Finance
- Collaborate with the CEO, COO, and regional leadership to drive financial strategies, capital allocation, and business growth.
- Partner with the Real Estate team to model complex project proformas, evaluate land transactions, and establish joint-venture structures.
- Manage and expand relationships with commercial lenders, investment partners, and equity providers to secure project financing.
- Financial Operations & Construction Accounting
- Drive the financial discipline of a multi-location construction enterprise, supported directly by the VP of Finance.
- Oversee work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, job cost accounting, project forecasting, and cash flow tracking.
- Cultivate crucial external networks with bonding agents, insurance brokers, and underwriters to optimize bonding capacity.
- Oversee financial IT systems and ensure seamless, open-book accounting and cross-department collaboration with field operations.
- Risk Management & Compliance
- Manage risk by tracking company liabilities, analyzing corporate operational expenses, and managing tax/compliance strategies.
- Ensure absolute compliance with the FASB, IRS, and state legal/regulatory entities across all operating territories.
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 12+ years of progressive financial leadership, with at least 5 years acting as a CFO, VP of Finance, or Director within the commercial construction and/or real estate development industries.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. An MBA or active CPA license is highly preferred.
- Industry Expertise: Deep mastery of construction-specific financial concepts, including WIP schedules, over/under billings, and multi-state tax compliance.
- Leadership Style: An approachable, highly relational communicator who translates "the story behind the numbers" to bridge field operations with corporate finance.
