About the role
Islamic Relief USA is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to providing emergency relief and sustainable development solutions to communities in need around the globe. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a pivotal role within the organization, responsible for leading the finance organization towards excellence in compliance, planning, strategic insight, and grant management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure the financial health and integrity of the organization through strategic stewardship and controllership.
- Lead treasury management, financial planning, risk management, and investment strategies.
- Spearhead technology transformations within the finance department to improve efficiency and transparency.
- Provide strategic financial insights and recommendations to the CEO and the board of directors.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, advising management on needed actions.
- Enhance and implement financial and accounting systems, processes, tools, and control systems.
- Lead budgeting, financial forecasting, and cash flow for administration, existing programs, and proposed new sites.
- Oversee grant accounting, reporting, and compliance to ensure adherence to donor and regulatory requirements. Collaborate closely with program departments to ensure effective financial management and oversight of grant-funded projects.
- Represent the organization to financial partners, including financial institutions, investors, foundation executives, auditors, public officials, etc.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Advanced degree in Accounting, Finance, or relevant field; CPA or similar certification highly preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in a senior financial leadership role, preferably in the non-profit, emergency relief, or development sectors.
- Demonstrated leadership ability, confidence, and executive presence – ability to motivate staff.
- Excellent analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
- Significant experience in or knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including sophisticated fund and grant accounting, compliance, and reporting.
- Experience with major financial reporting systems and data analysis tools.
- Commitment to the mission, values, and goals of Islamic Relief USA.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States.
