Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Chief Engineer - Dimensional Engineering to lead and grow our dimensional metrology and engineering capability for large-scale, precision manufacturing programs. The role owns the dimensional strategy, applies advanced metrology techniques, and partners with manufacturing, design, and quality teams to ensure parts and assemblies meet tight tolerances and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate combines deep technical knowledge of dimensional engineering and metrology with hands-on experience in manufacturing environments and proven leadership to drive process improvements and deliver production readiness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and lead the dimensional engineering strategy for programs across design, manufacturing, and final inspection to ensure dimensional conformity and product performance.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain metrology processes, procedures, and best practices (CMM, laser tracker, photogrammetry, Spatial Analyzer) for large-scale and precision assemblies.
  • Apply and mentor teams in GD&T and ASME standards to ensure consistent interpretation and correct application to drawings, tooling, and inspection plans.
  • Design and qualify tooling, fixtures, and measurement rigs; oversee shop-floor implementation and validation for production and assembly operations.
  • Specify, deploy, and validate measurement equipment and systems (CMMs, laser trackers, photogrammetry systems); coordinate vendor selection, acceptance, and calibration programs.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, design, quality, and supply chain to resolve dimensional nonconformances, root-cause issues, and corrective actions; drive lessons-learned into product and process improvements.
  • Lead development of inspection plans, measurement routines, and data-analysis workflows; interpret metrology data to provide clear, actionable engineering direction.
  • Champion automation of measurement workflows and reporting using CAD-integrated tools and scripts (Python, VBA, C#) to improve throughput and data quality.
  • Establish and maintain dimensional control during development, build, and sustainment phases; support production ramps, first-article inspections, and product certification activities.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing dimensional engineering team; create training plans and share metrology expertise across the organization.
  • Represent dimensional engineering in program reviews, risk assessments, and cross-functional leadership meetings; ensure compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in dimensional engineering, metrology, or precision manufacturing; demonstrated leadership on large-scale or aerospace programs preferred.
  • Strong, hands-on expertise with dimensional inspection technologies including CMM, laser trackers, photogrammetry, and Spatial Analyzer.
  • Proven knowledge and application of GD&T and relevant ASME/ISO metrology and inspection standards.
  • Deep experience working with manufacturing processes and integrating inspection into production workflows for high-precision assemblies.
  • Proficiency with CAD systems and familiarity with automating measurement and reporting workflows using Python, VBA, and/or C#.
  • Experience designing tooling, fixtures, and measurement rigs for large-scale parts and assemblies; strong practical understanding of shop-floor constraints.
  • Solid statistical and data-analysis skills; ability to interpret measurement results and lead root-cause investigations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills with experience mentoring engineers and technicians.

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience in the aerospace industry
  • Formal training or certification in metrology, ASME, Spatial Analyzer proficiency
  • Hands-on experience with precision tooling, CMM programming, laser tracker alignment, photogrammetry campaigns, and program-level metrology planning

Benefits
