About the role
We are seeking a Chief Engineer for our hotel who enjoys resolving problems, working with their hands, and general building maintenance. This position may require flexible scheduling availability.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and repair malfunctions in electrical, mechanical, plumbing systems, and other hotel equipment
- Conduct ongoing room preventative maintenance
- Resolve maintenance problems, complaints, and work orders to prioritize and schedule work
- Perform carpentry, painting, drywall, and carpet repair work (skills in these areas are a plus)
- Inspect property to identify potential and current needs
- Ensure department expenditures meet budget requirements
- Solicit bids from contractors and evaluate their proposals with hotel management
- Coordinate with local health, safety, fire, and building inspectors to ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations
- Ensure the pool is properly maintained, including cleanliness and chemical content
- Maintain the building exterior if not serviced by a contractor (e.g., lawn care, painting)
- Supervise and schedule maintenance staff
- Maintain guest satisfaction scores at brand standard or higher and all Internal Audit/Corporate standards
Requirements
- Highly motivated team player with strong initiative and desire for achievement
- Effective in handling workplace problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving issues
- Able to work well in stressful situations and follow all safety procedures
- Extend professionalism and courtesy to guests at all times
- Prior hotel maintenance experience of at least 4 years (preferred)
- Previous experience managing maintenance/engineering, specifically in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, ventilation systems, and carpentry
- Working knowledge and experience with swimming pool maintenance
- Experience ordering supplies and managing inventory
- Valid Driver’s License required
