About the Role

The Chief Electrical Engineer is a key role within the global Manufacturing, Technology, and Engineering (MTE) Team of Arconic Corp’s Rolled Products business group. The MTE group is responsible for equipment reliability improvement, process improvement, equipment troubleshooting and upgrade support, automation and smart manufacturing, standard practice implementation, and major capital projects. This role supports several domestic and international manufacturing facilities and requires a high degree of autonomy.

The home location is preferred to be Davenport, IA, with travel required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Arconic-wide Electrical Engineering Network and directly supervise MTE engineers/technicians, including succession planning and development.
  • Own Corporate Standards for Electrical Systems and Electrical Safety.
  • Provide foundational expertise on control systems related to the metals industry (rolling, coiling, leveling, strip conveyance, and other processes).
  • Provide electrical engineering support and leadership to sustain production operations and equipment maintenance for rolling and finishing facilities.
  • Support or lead problem-solving for significant electrical-related downtime events.
  • Technical expertise and responsibilities in the following areas:
    • Variable speed AC and DC Drive systems above 1000hp.
    • DC Motor maintenance, overhaul, and rebuilding.
    • Medium and low voltage power systems (in collaboration with established power engineers).
    • Automation equipment, process computers, and programmable logic controllers.
    • Process networking (OT) and interfacing.
  • Technically manage or lead projects of significant business impact or risk.
  • Provide on-site support for critical process or equipment problems at all locations.
  • Demonstrate organizational and team-building skills in high-pressure situations, driving consensus among diverse opinions.
  • Apply standardized tools such as statistical process control, reliability excellence, and data analysis to improve process, maintenance, and efficiency efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • 15 years of electrical engineering experience within a metals or heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with AC/DC Drive systems, AC/DC motor applications, maintenance, theory, control systems, and automation.
  • Experience leading capital and expense projects in a factory environment.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States; verification of employment eligibility required at hire. Visa sponsorship is not available.
  • Access to controlled technology under Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. 730, et seq.) and/or International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR); government authorization may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading, managing, and implementing electrical projects, including design, installation, and commissioning.
  • Ability to oversee craft personnel in implementing engineered solutions and maintenance activities.
  • Ability to initiate and maintain dialogue with personnel to ensure safe work practices, PPE usage, and lock-tag-verify procedures.
  • Management of external vendors providing electrical design and support functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Working knowledge of electrical engineering, industry safety standards, and related codes.
  • 20 years’ experience with electrical systems and manufacturing processes in metals or heavy industry.
  • Experience in medium voltage distribution and transformer maintenance.
  • Experience in estimating, justifying, managing, and installing capital projects.
  • Strong electrical engineering, maintenance, and reliability background.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and creative thinking skills.

About the Team

Davenport Works is Arconic’s largest aluminum rolling mill, opened in 1948 and employing over 2,000 people. Located in Riverdale, within the Quad Cities (Davenport and Bettendorf, IA; Rock Island and Moline, IL), the facility ships products worldwide. The Quad Cities is situated 3 hours southwest of Chicago, 4 hours north of St. Louis, and under 3 hours from Des Moines. The region hosts 8 educational institutions, including St. Ambrose University, and major outdoor summer music festivals such as the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Festival, Mississippi Valley Blues Festival, and River Roots Live.
