Chief Development Officer - Newhouse

Over the past seven years, the organization has increased annual revenue from approximately $2.3 million to $8 million while expanding the number of individuals served by 165%. Newhouse is poised to enter its next transformational chapter: planning a $35 million Community Impact Campus that will redefine comprehensive services for survivors and families.
About the role
Newhouse is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and results-driven Chief Development Officer to lead the organization's fundraising and philanthropic growth during a transformational period of expansion. Reporting directly to the CEO and serving as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, the CDO will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy to accelerate philanthropic growth and advance Newhouse's bold vision for the future. The CDO will serve as the organization's senior fundraising leader, primary major gifts officer, and a trusted thought partner to the CEO.
Responsibilities
- Design and execute a comprehensive, multi-year fundraising strategy that supports Newhouse’s growth, advances the $35 million Community Impact Campus, and expands major gifts, annual giving, corporate partnerships, events, sponsorships, planned giving, and donor stewardship.
- Serve as Newhouse’s lead fundraiser and philanthropic ambassador, building strong relationships with donors, foundations, corporate partners, community leaders, volunteers, and board members.
- Lead and develop the fundraising team, oversee development operations and CRM performance, and partner with the Chief Financial Officer on budgets, forecasts, reporting, and accountability.
- Collaborate with marketing and executive leadership to strengthen visibility and support.
- Strengthen relationships, inspire philanthropic investment, and foster a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization.
- Play a central role in advancing Newhouse’s vision for its first-of-its-kind Community Impact Campus by securing philanthropic support and leading innovative fundraising initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree.
- At least seven years of progressive fundraising or nonprofit development experience.
- Demonstrated success with comprehensive fundraising strategies, major gifts, capital campaigns, events, donor stewardship, and team leadership.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Familiarity with donor CRM platforms.
- Knowledge of the Kansas City philanthropic community.
- Cultural sensitivity.
- Reliable transportation.
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Pay
Salary range is $120,000-$135,000, with eligibility for an annual performance-based bonus.
Schedule
Full-time, exempt position. General schedule is Monday through Friday, with occasional weeknights and weekends for events or planning. Newhouse practices a flexible work environment if key objectives are being accomplished.
