Chief Compliance Officer
About the role
This position ensures compliance with Federal, State, and Local laws and City of Denton policies, procedures, and contracts. Responsibilities include leading compliance reviews, developing compliance plans, and collaborating with internal stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Collect, analyze, and evaluate policies, practices, and operational information to assess compliance with City policies, procedures, and contracts.
- Lead updates that advance the City of Denton's mission and core values.
- Develop compliance review plans and methodologies, including standardized internal control tools, templates, and educational material.
- Identify risks and non-compliance, determine root cause, and document findings.
- Create and manage effective action plans resulting from audits or compliance issues.
- Aid with the promotion and communication of the compliance program.
- Resolve non-compliance with applicable laws, regulations, internal policies, processes, and directives.
- Conduct training that follows developed education and training plans.
- Monitor and assess contract compliance by the City of Denton and its vendors, service providers, and consultants.
- Aid in the preparation of information, reports, analysis, and presentations for City management, City Council, committees, or internal or external auditors.
- Assist with department administrative duties.
- Facilitate information flow and follow-up between internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
- Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Ethics, Business Administration, Public Administration, Risk Management, Regulatory Compliance, or related field.
- Five (5) years’ experience in regulatory compliance, risk management, or related field.
- Three (3) years’ experience in management or supervisory capacity.
Skills
- Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local Government laws, ordinances, and regulations.
- Effective research-based strategies, theories, techniques, and methodologies.
- Complex problem solving; identifying problems and reviewing related information to develop, evaluate options, and implement solutions.
- Microsoft Office 365 and other software systems.
- Exceptional service to internal and external customers.
- Interpersonal relationships, including using tact, patience, and courtesy.
- Communicate effectively, both in oral and written forms.
- Establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
- Accurately prepare and maintain records, files, and reports.
- Handle records and complex situations of a confidential nature.
- Handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure and confidentiality.
- Work independently and/or with team environment while handling multiple tasks and changing priorities with attention to detail.
- Develop, understand, interpret, and apply rules, policies, and procedures operations.

Qualifications
Must pass a drug test, criminal history background check, employment history verification, and social security number verification. Environment: Works in an office setting; occasionally requires irregular and/or prolonged hours. Travel: Travel to City of Denton buildings and professional meetings as required. Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position. Must be able to work after normal business hours, holidays, and weekends, as needed. Must attend regularly scheduled and special meetings.
