Job Summary
Reporting to the VP of Student Affairs, the Chief of Police will oversee the University Police Department, providing leadership and administration to ensure the safety and security of the campus community.
About the Role
Directs senior managers and all sworn and non-sworn personnel in the Department in the daily operations and functions of University Police. Formulates crime prevention strategies, patrol requirements, and researches training needs. Develops policy, structure, and staffing necessary for maximum effectiveness of the Department. Conducts crime analysis, disseminates crime statistics, and produces reports and follow-up protocols. Manages all administrative duties, working closely with Human Resources on employment matters. Supervises crime scenes and coordinates evidence collection. Establishes and maintains professional relationships with other government agencies. Interfaces with the President, VPs, Deans, and senior management staff on matters of mutual concern. Ensures effective operational plans for special events, ensuring safety and security according to best practices. Supervises subordinate Deputy Chiefs and Inspectors regarding areas of responsibility. Directs all sworn and non-sworn personnel in the University Police Department on a daily basis. Oversees the Parking Enforcement Services Division. Coordinates with the University's Conferences and Special Events Office to ensure compliance with parking policies during events. Develops operational plans for large-scale events, including commencements, concerts, Homecoming, sporting events, and other details requiring policing coverage. Continues to contribute to the success of Workplace Violence and Violence Against Women Act Committees on campus, collaborating with the Title IX Coordinator and Counseling Center. Collaborates with the campus community to design and implement workplace violence prevention programs. Engages in public discussions and outreach programs with governmental agencies and various facets of the Shaw University community. Liaises with local law enforcement and criminal justice agencies to address mutual concerns. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Criminal Justice preferred, or combination of education and relevant experience.
- Seven years of full-time supervisory law enforcement experience in an urban and/or campus setting, including administrative experience.
- Two current or previous years of experience serving as a Chief (Assistant/Deputy) within a University Police Department.
- Investigative supervisory skills, including oversight of confidential and sensitive investigations.
- Demonstrated experience in crime analysis and development of appropriate response plans.
- Demonstrated experience in special events planning.
- Demonstrated experience in collaborating with internal/external groups in an effort to problem solve.
