Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney – Gogebic County Prosecutor’s Office

Job Description

Gogebic County is accepting cover letters and resumes for the Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney within the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney. Under the supervision of the Prosecuting Attorney, the Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney will be responsible for performing a wide assortment of prosecutorial duties in District, Circuit, Juvenile, Family, and Probate Courts. This position is full time at 35 hours / week.

Responsibilities And Duties

• Reviews law enforcement reports, evidence, and legal issues in order to authorize warrants.
• Researches and prepares cases for motions, trial, sentencing, and other proceedings in District, Circuit, Juvenile, Family, and Probate Courts.
• Represents the State of Michigan in all stages of prosecution for misdemeanor, felony, and probate cases by appearing in District, Circuit, Juvenile, and Probate Courts.
• Drafts and amends child abuse and neglect petitions for Family Court adjudication and represents the DHHS in ongoing child abuse and neglect cases.
• Interviews and informs victims, witnesses, officials, and other parties regarding cases, legal procedures, and court appearances.
• Discusses potential and actual outcomes of cases with law enforcement, victims, defendants, and related parties to explain legal rights, court procedures, and responsibilities of the parties involved.
• Collaborates with other agencies, such as mental health, medical personnel, social services, probation officers, and other related groups.
• Keeps the Prosecutor apprised of case status and high-profile cases.
• Performs other duties as directed.

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited law school, licensed by the Michigan Bar Association with membership in good standing,
• possessing a valid Michigan Driver’s License,
• ability to pass a personal background investigation including a criminal history check.

Prior Prosecutorial Experience

• Prior prosecutorial experience preferred, but not required.
• PACC/PAAM internships qualify as prior prosecutorial experience.
