Chief Advancement Officer
About the role
The Hill Museum & Manuscript Library (HMML) seeks an inaugural Chief Advancement Officer to lead the organization's next era of philanthropic growth. Reporting to the Executive Director and serving as one of three senior executive leaders, the Chief Advancement Officer will build and lead a comprehensive advancement strategy that expands philanthropic support, strengthens organizational capacity, and advances HMML's global mission to preserve and share humanity's most vulnerable manuscript collections. Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a comprehensive multi-year advancement strategy that supports HMML's strategic priorities and long-term sustainability.
- Personally cultivate, solicit, and steward major and principal gift donors while expanding and diversifying philanthropic support.
- Lead and oversee integrated Advancement and Communications functions, including fundraising, marketing, public engagement, and donor stewardship.
- Partner closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and Advancement Committee to strengthen organizational philanthropy and donor engagement.
- Provide strategic leadership and supervision for the Advancement and Communications team while fostering a collaborative, mission-driven culture.
Qualifications
- Seven to ten years of advancement leadership experience within nonprofit organizations of comparable complexity; experience in cultural heritage, higher education, libraries, museums, archives, humanities, or international nonprofits is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated success securing five- and six-figure philanthropic commitments and leading comprehensive fundraising initiatives.
- Experience managing professional staff, building collaborative relationships, and working effectively with executive leadership and governing boards.
- Exceptional communication, storytelling, strategic planning, and relationship-building skills.
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- Willingness to travel nationally and internationally as needed.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $140,000 to $150,000.
