ORNL is seeking a Materials Inventory Support Specialist with a dual role supporting the Neutron Technologies Division and the Chestnut Ridge Materials Management Group. This position reports to the Materials Management Front Line Supervisor.

About the role

The primary purpose of this position is to establish and maintain accurate and complete item detail information for maintenance parts, spares, materials, and supplies supporting operations on Chestnut Ridge. Additionally, this role supports Materials Management Supervision in all aspects of Chestnut Ridge Materials Management Operations and serves as backup in the supervisor’s absence.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize Infor Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) software to establish new maintenance item records, edit existing records, and/or deactivate approved records.
  • Generate and affix barcode labels from Infor EAM.
  • Replenish inventory using appropriate procurement processes.
  • Initiate kit-to-work order creation, delivery, and returns.
  • Perform analysis and monitor inventory usage for potential increase or decrease trends, focusing on lead times, supplier performance, and inventory standardization.
  • Review inventory accuracy and initiate cycle counting on an annual basis; perform inventory adjustments outside of cycle counting.
  • Investigate, analyze, and resolve inventory problems and concerns when variances occur to ensure continuity of operations and establish corrective actions.
  • Gather and evaluate shelf-life information to support the reliability of all critical inventory items.
  • Monitor and record inventory requiring preventative maintenance to support reliability.
  • Serve as a liaison between management, customers, accounts payable, engineering, procurement, and vendors to ensure quality and availability of inventory.
  • Generate and review reports associated with inventory to improve performance and meet or exceed established measures.
  • Serve as backup subject-matter expert for other areas of Materials Management, including receiving, delivery, property management, SAP inventory, Hold For Future Projects inventory, and other Chestnut Ridge Site Services processes.

Requirements

  • BS/BA in business, logistics, or other relevant field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of receiving, delivery, and other materials and property management processes.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience with automated and manual inventory systems, including SAP, SharePoint, and other inventory management software.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact positively with all levels of management, customers, and vendors.
  • Strong organization and problem-solving skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities in a demanding environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize, work independently, make decisions, and communicate ideas and concepts effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a team player and exercise sound judgment within the assigned scope of responsibility.

Special Requirements

  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an HSPD-12 PIV badge; a Real ID-compliant form of identification is required.
  • Must successfully complete and pass a Federal Tier 1 background check investigation, including a declaration of illegal drug activities (including marijuana/cannabis derivatives) within the last year.
