The internship will support a manufacturing plant that produces process chromatography resins, liquid buffers, monomer solutions, oils, and other specialized life science products at our Richmond, CA chemical plant. You will be assigned a project that will benefit our compliance, sustainability, and productivity goals.

About the role

  • Manage a project analyzing current products and by-products to determine residual materials or byproducts created during the processes.
  • Work alongside other scientists and engineers in the MSAT (Manufacturing Scientist and Technology) team and collaborate with various stakeholders in production and EH&S (Environmental Health and Safety) to meet project objectives.
  • Research into products and processes, research into available technologies for testing, conduct lab-scale analytical chemical testing, and analyze results.
  • Investigate, develop basic experiments and tests (including writing and executing protocols), analyze results, make recommendations, and develop reports identifying unwanted residuals or byproducts.
  • Investigate sources of byproducts and residuals and create novel recommendations to minimize, eliminate, or remove from our processes.
  • Establish basic project plans ensuring deliverables are completed to expectations, using project management tools.

Requirements

  • Junior (or higher) level education for BS in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or equivalent degree with upper division chemistry course work.
  • Previous experience in the manufacturing environment or in a laboratory environment is preferred.
  • Experience working in teams and meeting project goals is desirable.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and enthusiastically to a variety of audiences and to present compelling arguments and to train others.
  • Strong computer skills such as Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point.
  • A continuous improvement and problem-solving mindset and ingrained curiosity to learn and understand.

Pay

The hourly range for this position is $25 at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors.

Schedule

This position must be based in Richmond, California and requires the employee to be located within commuting distance of the office.
