About the role

Spokane Community College, part of Spokane Colleges, serves 15,000 students with career technical, liberal arts, and adult education programs in Spokane and surrounding rural communities. Responsibilities

  • Teaching 100-level chemistry courses, including lecture and laboratory instruction.
  • Typical courses may include Introduction to Chemistry for Health Science Majors or Introduction to Chemistry for non-science majors.
  • Format is typically in-person or partially online. This is not a fully online position.
  • Communicates expectations and establishes clear criteria through appropriate instructional means, to include but not limited to developing course syllabi, handouts, and material supporting the instructional process.
  • Evaluates student progress and provides clear, timely feedback.
  • Supports students with availability and accessibility beyond scheduled meeting times. This may include office hours, e-mail, and other effective means of responsive and timely communication.
  • Complies with district policy, procedures and directives, state and federal regulations, orders and statute and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Complies with state and federal law applicable to professional duties and responsibilities; Follows established procedures in areas such as printing, turning in grades, bookstore orders, student financial aid requirements, safety and health issues and related administrative process.
  • Contributes to the department's efforts to improve student success/retention in chemistry.
  • Supports and advances the Spokane Colleges strategic plan, and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • An earned Master's degree in Chemistry from an accredited institution OR a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from an accredited institution and a Master's degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated use of effective oral, written, interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • Acceptance of the responsibility to promote the welfare and best interests of students at all times.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience teaching college chemistry courses.
  • Interest or experience in the use of technology for the learning environment, including various teaching modalities (hybrid, online, etc.) and learning management systems.
  • Interest in, and knowledge of, chemistry curriculum specific to allied health fields, such as nursing.
  • Work or life experience in a career field involving the practical application of chemistry.

Pay

Starting salary for this position is: $42.05 - $89.48 per hour based on workload category.

Schedule

This is an adjunct (part-time) position. Compensation will be pro-rated according to the amount of workload assigned.
