Chemistry, Assistant Professor

California State Polytechnic University, Pomona invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor in cosmetic or formulation chemistry from any subdiscipline and/or organic chemistry, starting Fall 2027.

About the Department

The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry offers B.S. and M.S. degrees in Chemistry, with programs certified by the American Chemical Society. The department includes 16 tenured/tenure-track faculty and serves 399 undergraduate majors. The B.S. program features an optional senior thesis research project, while the M.S. program culminates in a research-based dissertation. The department actively engages students from other majors, such as Chemical Engineering, Biological Sciences, and Agriculture, in research opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate lectures and laboratory classes in the candidate’s area of expertise.
• Develop and maintain an active research program involving undergraduate and M.S.-level students.
• Advise students and contribute to service activities within the university.
• Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through teaching, scholarship, and/or service.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field, conferred by the start date of the appointment.
• Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and developing lecture and laboratory courses within the organic or analytical chemistry division.
• Commitment to diversity and inclusivity, as evidenced in the Teaching Philosophy addressing at least two inclusive excellence criteria.
• Demonstrated potential to establish an active research program involving undergraduate and M.S.-level students.
• Demonstrated ability to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching, and/or service.

Preferred Qualifications

• University/college teaching experience in chemistry lecture and/or laboratory courses.
• Postdoctoral experience in organic or analytical chemistry.
• Capability and interest in teaching at all levels of the chemistry curriculum, including upper-division undergraduate and graduate (Master-level) courses.
• Experience or familiarity with techniques that promote student engagement, equity, and success.

Pay

$90,488 - $94,488 annually.
