Division/Department Information
The Department of Chemistry at the Queens campus of St. John’s University, located in New York City, is seeking applicants for adjunct instructor positions in foundational first- and second-year chemistry courses. We are specifically looking for instructors to teach general chemistry and organic chemistry lecture, laboratory, and recitation sections.
- B.S. and M.S. degrees offered by the department.
- Twelve tenured/tenure-track faculty members with active research and scholarly programs.
- Approximately 10 ACS-certified B.S. chemistry majors and five M.S. students graduate annually.
- An active ACS Student Chapter and seminar program with weekly meetings.
- Modern instrumentation including a 400 MHz NMR, ICP, GC-MS, GC-FID, UV-vis, fluorescence, LC-MS, HPLC, and FTIR instruments.

Responsibilities
The Department of Chemistry is seeking adjunct instructors for one-semester appointments, with the possibility of renewal. Successful candidates will primarily teach foundational first- and second-year courses in organic chemistry and general chemistry, including lecture, laboratory, and recitation sections.
Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate chemistry teaching. Candidates with experience teaching diverse learners and those who have demonstrated a commitment to anti-racism, inclusivity, and equity in their pedagogy or pedagogical plans are especially encouraged to apply.
Qualifications
Applicants should have an M.S. in chemistry or are currently pursuing an advanced degree in chemistry or a closely related field. Candidates should have the ability to teach foundational undergraduate chemistry courses, particularly in organic chemistry and general chemistry lectures, laboratory, and recitation settings.

Pay
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the per credit salary for this position is $1803.
