About the role
We’re seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Chemist to join our Metals laboratory team in Reading, PA.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, analyze, and document client and quality control samples using approved methods and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain analytical instruments to ensure accuracy and reliability of results
- Record, validate, and manage analytical data within the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) while ensuring traceability and compliance with quality standards
- Participate in method development, validation, and troubleshooting activities to enhance analytical performance and efficiency
- Support quality assurance initiatives, including audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement projects
- Collaborate with peers and supervisors to meet deadlines, maintain safety protocols, and uphold SPL’s commitment to data integrity
- Contribute to team training, mentorship, and the continuous improvement of laboratory practices
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Science, or a related field
- Minimum of two (2) years of hands-on analytical laboratory experience
- Experience with ICP and/or ICP-MS strongly preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook) and LIMS systems
- Proven experience working in a regulated laboratory environment with strict adherence to SOPs, QA/QC protocols, and compliance-driven procedures
Qualifications
- Strong analytical chemistry foundation with the ability to accurately prepare, process, and analyze environmental and quality control samples using approved methods
- High attention to detail and data integrity, ensuring all results are accurate, traceable, defensible, and properly documented in LIMS
- Demonstrated track record of handling high sample throughput while maintaining precision, efficiency, and adherence to turnaround time requirements
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to recognize instrument drift, method issues, or sample anomalies and take corrective action quickly
- Organized and process-driven work habits, maintaining clean documentation, structured workflows, and proper chain-of-custody practices
- Strong independent work ethic paired with collaborative communication skills to support seamless coordination across the lab team
- High aptitude for learning with the ability to quickly master new analytical methods, instrument workflows, and laboratory systems
- Commitment to safety and compliance, including proper chemical handling, PPE use, and maintaining a safe, clean lab environment
