About the role
This full-time position is located in Dugway, UT. The Chemist performs advanced chemical research and analysis, solves complex problems using innovative approaches, and contributes to the design of experiments, assessment of data quality, and preparation of technical documents. The role involves conducting research on organic and inorganic substances, analyzing and testing materials to identify properties and characteristics, and evaluating chemical reactions and physical relationships to support the development or improvement of products and processes. Candidates may specialize in one or more areas including Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Geochemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Nuclear Chemistry, Radiochemistry, Organic Chemistry, or Physical Chemistry.
Responsibilities
- Conduct and/or lead small technical projects or phases of larger technical projects, applying innovative methods and approaches.
- Lead projects involving novel methodologies or applications and contribute to internal research and development (IR&D) studies.
- Develop innovative testing and/or analysis methods to improve the quality of results and overall efficiency.
- Generate and evaluate experimental data, prepare data summaries, and analyze technical results against quality objectives.
- Analyze and interpret collected data; prepare technical reports and deliver formal and informal presentations to clients.
- Troubleshoot complex testing processes when expected results are not obtained.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal and external clients and present research findings.
- Communicate with clients regarding deliverable schedules and quality expectations.
- Identify and report intellectual property (IP) opportunities.
- Support business development efforts led by others and secure follow-on work.
- Assist with proposal efforts, including preparation of technical proposal sections.
- Oversee, mentor, and train lower-level staff and assist them in resolving analysis problems.
- Provide direction to and coordinate the efforts of technical support staff within time and budget constraints.
- Participate in scientific conferences, peer review panels, and Battelle-sponsored events to increase company visibility through publications and professional engagement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related field with 5 years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree in a related field with 2 years of relevant experience; or a PhD in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Pay
The salary range for this role is $72,000 – $102,000 per year. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications. Salary ranges may vary based on geographic location and market conditions.
