Chemist

Mayvin is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Chemist to support the Interdiction Technology Branch’s (ITB) Rapid Technology Assessment (RTA) team. The duty station will be at the INTERDICT Science Center (ISC) in Ashburn, VA. The primary responsibilities are to assess Commercial Off‑The‑Shelf (COTS) chemical identification equipment for performance and suitability in both laboratory and field environments, write test plans, collect data, and produce reports. The chemist will collaborate with ISC, conduct chemical analyses and physical testing of materials, chemicals, physiological specimens, and other products, and work with other DHS and interagency components, including the Departments of Defense and Justice.

Responsibilities

• Assess COTS equipment for performance and suitability, primarily chemical identification equipment, with occasional support for other COTS technologies.
• Write and brief test plans, results, and assessment findings to internal and external sponsors and stakeholders.
• Develop and conduct tests for chemical ingredients, substances, and materials.
• Analyze substances to determine composition and elemental concentration.
• Travel up to 25% of the time, including indoor and outdoor work for 1–2 weeks at a time to support data‑collection events at laboratories, Forward Operating Laboratories (FOLs), and Ports of Entry (POEs).

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship.
• Ability to undergo and pass a background investigation.
• DHS/CBP Minimum T4 Background Investigation required.
