Chemist

Basic Function

HF SInclair in Sinclair, WY is seeking a Chemist to conduct routine and non-routine chemistry/laboratory assignments for the Lab Department under limited supervision. May lead the work of others from time-to-time.

Job Duties

• Samples and conducts standard tests on raw materials, intermediates, and finished products and may train others to perform standard tests depending on location
• Ensures testing is carried out as per established methods/procedures
• Ensures the quality of work through quality assurance testing and documentation
• Records, reports, and certifies results
• Performs routine maintenance and calibrations on laboratory equipment
• Creates QA documents and protocols
• May also perform other duties, including:
• Maintains process control of plant streams, product purity and fuel gas composition, liquefied petroleum products, and various levels of Hydrogen
• Supports other departments in sampling, testing, and compliance monitoring
• Operates Chromatographs
• Ships samples designated as hazardous
• Maintains drinking water streams for compliance
• Supports product blending
• Coordinates special requests and compliance testing with outside testing laboratories

Experience

None required.

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelors Degree of Science in Chemistry or related field is required.

Required Skills

• Working knowledge of laboratory testing and ability to apply this knowledge
• Working knowledge of petroleum products and testing
• Depending on location, may require the ability to train and lead the work of others
• Intermediate reading and writing skills
• Ability to perform advanced mathematical calculations
• Effective communication with others, both written and verbal communication

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

None.

Work Conditions

• Office based with occasional refinery visits, and up to 10% travel by land and air required
• Petroleum refinery/industrial environment including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, and rotating equipment
• Subject to all weather, and varying road conditions

• Standing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, reaching or grasping, and wearing personal protective equipment (beards not permitted)
