Chemist
Basic Function
HF SInclair in Sinclair, WY is seeking a Chemist to conduct routine and non-routine chemistry/laboratory assignments for the Lab Department under limited supervision. May lead the work of others from time-to-time.
Job Duties
- Samples and conducts standard tests on raw materials, intermediates, and finished products and may train others to perform standard tests depending on location
- Ensures testing is carried out as per established methods/procedures
- Ensures the quality of work through quality assurance testing and documentation
- Records, reports, and certifies results
- Performs routine maintenance and calibrations on laboratory equipment
- Creates QA documents and protocols
- May also perform other duties, including:
- Maintains process control of plant streams, product purity and fuel gas composition, liquefied petroleum products, and various levels of Hydrogen
- Supports other departments in sampling, testing, and compliance monitoring
- Operates Chromatographs
- Ships samples designated as hazardous
- Maintains drinking water streams for compliance
- Supports product blending
- Coordinates special requests and compliance testing with outside testing laboratories
Experience
None required.
Education Level
A minimum of a Bachelors Degree of Science in Chemistry or related field is required.
Required Skills
- Working knowledge of laboratory testing and ability to apply this knowledge
- Working knowledge of petroleum products and testing
- Depending on location, may require the ability to train and lead the work of others
- Intermediate reading and writing skills
- Ability to perform advanced mathematical calculations
- Effective communication with others, both written and verbal communication
Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility
None.
Work Conditions
- Office based with occasional refinery visits, and up to 10% travel by land and air required
- Petroleum refinery/industrial environment including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, and rotating equipment
- Subject to all weather, and varying road conditions

- Standing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, reaching or grasping, and wearing personal protective equipment (beards not permitted)
