Position Title: Chemist 2
Department: Residue Chemistry or Inorganic Laboratories
Reports To: Group Leader

Responsibilities

  • Performs sample analysis as per documented methods and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Operates analytical instrumentation, chromatographic and other, such as a GC, LC, or ICP that is equipped with conventional, MS, and MSMS detection.
  • Utilizes multiple vendor acquisition and quantitative analysis software packages to evaluate, interpret, and report test results, including QA/QC data.
  • Enters data into the LIMS for the tests performed and is responsible for the results.
  • Independently performs analysis for simple and complex test methods for routine and non-routine samples and matrix types.
  • Issues with complex analyses are discussed with and potential solutions proposed to the Group Leader.
  • Ensures that samples are extracted and analyzed in accordance with registered and in-house validated methods.
  • Ensures that reference materials and working standards are maintained and documented according to relevant regulated documents and SOPs.
  • Compiles and maintains Internal Quality Control (IQC) data for analytes and tests assigned and performs periodic assessments of positive fortification extraction efficiency/recovery trends.
  • Works in a safe manner, using appropriate safeguards and personal protective equipment, to prevent injury to self and co-workers.
  • Supports and provides assignments for Chemist 1 as directed by Group Leader.
  • Serves as a resource to other Chemists as needed or directed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S. or B.A.) in Chemistry or related science from a four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 1 year of successful experience working independently with and proven competency in daily operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Gas or Liquid Chromatographic or Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectrometric instrumentation utilizing conventional, MS, and MSMS detectors (GC, GCMS, GCMSMS, HPLC, LCMSMS, ICPMS, etc.).
  • Thorough understanding and demonstrable working knowledge of analytical instrumentation and data analysis software packages such as: Agilent MassHunter, Agilent OpenLAB CDS, SCIEX Analyst, SCIEX MultiQuant, SCIEX OS, Waters Acquity or equivalent.
  • Successful experience collaborating with different or dissimilar business departments.
  • Familiar with the commercial fast-paced laboratory business environment.
  • Experience with and participation in improvement and learning initiatives.
  • Able to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Able to gather and communicate technical information clearly, both orally and through writing, with respect to analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High Emotional Intelligence.
  • Good cultural awareness and ability to communicate with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Experienced user of MS Office and Adobe Acrobat.
