Chemical Technician
Job Purpose
Assist Staff Chemist with laboratory chemical and physical tests and methodologies required for monitoring the quality of manufacturing processes and products. Also to maintain, enter, record, and file data generated by laboratory activities and analytical work.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Counsults with Staff Chemist to conduct chemical and physical laboratory tests of solids and liquids and analyzes test data to ensure the quality of processes and products.
- Recommends changes in laboratory procedures and equipment in order to increase the efficiency of the laboratory.
- Prepares reports of analytical work.
- Participates in problem-solving activities to determine root causes of quality non-conformances.
- Operates the optical microscope to measure lead alloy calcium grain diameter.
- Analyzes batches of wastewater to meet regulatory requirements.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications: High School degree with basic high school level chemistry knowledge; 1 year of appropriately related experience in the industry.
- Preferred Qualifications: Associate of Science degree, with 1 to 2 years in appropriately related experience in the industry.
General Job Requirements
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to frequently bend; twist; reach; stoop; kneel or crouch.
- Must be able to differentiate colors.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds/23 kilos on a daily continuous basis. Anything heavier will be done with the assistance of a mechanical device or with the assistance of another employee.
- This position is exposed to harmful materials such as lead/fiberglass products. Periodic blood tests are required to measure the level of lead. Precautions are taken by the company/employee to reduce the risk of exposure and help ensure everyones safety.
- Employees are responsible for wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment in the proper manner at all times.
