About the role
Synthomer is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious individual to join our dynamic team. This position involves running reactive chemistry processes to produce finished goods, ensuring safety and quality at every step.
Responsibilities
- Follow all plant safety requirements and participate in safety initiatives.
- Review and set up equipment according to instructions.
- Monitor chemical processes, record data, and make decisions to ensure safe operation and quality product.
- Filter and transfer finished product, package materials, and prepare for shipping or bulk storage.
- Sample batches, in-process, and finished product; adjust batches as necessary to meet quality standards.
- Record production data in log and SAP systems.
- Clean work area, tank-feeding lines, and vessels.
- Support inventory control processes including cycle counting.
- Inspect forklifts, work areas, and personal safety equipment.
- Assist maintenance personnel with preparation of equipment for maintenance repairs.
- Work overtime as needed and be available during production call-in calendar.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Good math skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to document work.
- Exposure to various weather conditions.
- Ability to wear safety equipment as required.
- Ability to lift 55 pounds and roll 500 pound drums.
- Ability to work straight shifts – nights or days.
- Not afraid of heights – no balance abnormalities.
- Physical ability to perform tasks such as standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
Skills

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Follow all plant safety requirements and participate in safety initiatives.
- Lead/participate in department and site safety initiatives including attending and leading safety meetings as assigned.
- Reviews paperwork associated with process to be operated and sets up equipment according to instructions.
- Verifies raw material availability and restocks plant supply as needed.
- Adds raw materials to vessels, either manually, periodically lifting 55 lbs., or via hard piped systems utilizing pumps.
- Makes sure reactive chemical processes are monitored via computer control systems and visual observation of data.
- Records data throughout the process and troubleshoots and reports processing issues using collected data and by monitoring plant control system trends.
- Samples batches, in-process and finished product.
- Adjusts batch upon quality control advice, if necessary, to meet quality standards.
- Records production data in log and SAP computer systems as pertains to batch.
- Filters and transfers final product into proper storage container, tank, or truck.
- Places identification labels on containers for storage and shipping.
- Cleans work area, tank-feeding lines, and vessel.
- Maintains housekeeping in shared work areas.
- Participates in inventory control processes including cycle counting.
- Inspects forklifts, work areas, and personal safety equipment for compliance with documented expectations.
- Supports routine jobs inspections, as assigned.
- Stays current on safety and job training expectations.
- Be able to assist maintenance personnel with preparation of equipment for maintenance repairs per the safe work permit process.
- Have full understanding of site safety system permits in the acceptor role.
- Be able to complete and work from safe work permits for non-routine tasks.
Physical Demands
- Frequent exposure to wet and/or humid conditions.
- Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts.
- Occasional exposure to flammable, toxic, or caustic chemicals.
- Moderate noise levels in the work environment.
