Cheese Clerk

About the Role

Prepare cheese and other cheese shop related products, and display product in the department in a careful, clean, neat, and expedient manner while ensuring all product is fresh, rotated, and well-stocked for customers. Maintain great customer service at the service counter and throughout the department.

Responsibilities

• Greet, assist, and thank customers in a prompt, courteous, and friendly manner.
• Offer product suggestions and process merchandise according to production guidelines.
• Prepare, wrap, weigh, label, and price cheeses and other cheese shop related products.
• Fill cheese cases and related departments (e.g., coffee beans, crackers), make platters, and take orders.
• Ensure the department is merchandised in accordance with community needs and department sales initiatives.
• Stock display cases and rotate all cheese merchandise following company policy and product code dates (first in, first out).
• Receive and unload deliveries; store products in designated areas to ensure freshness.
• Maintain accurate records (receiving logs, invoices, inventory) and respond to department mail.
• Monitor cooler and display cases for correct temperature settings; report refrigeration failures immediately.
• Practice proper sanitation procedures and maintain cleanliness of the freezer, cooler, equipment, and work area.
• Ensure sales and work areas are swept clean, orderly, and free from safety hazards; report hazards to management.
• Promote sampling merchandise and ensure department associates adhere to company dress code standards.
• Notify management of associate theft, customer shoplifting, unauthorized markdowns, or property defacement.
• Complete onboarding/e-learnings and checklist within 30 days of hire.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age.
• Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English, with the ability to follow instructions.
• Ability to work a schedule based on the business needs of the store location.
• Authorized to work within the U.S.

Physical Demands

• Occasionally (1-33%): Pushing up to 300 lbs, lifting up to 45 lbs, climbing up to 8 feet, kneeling, crouching, loud noise, slippery or cluttered floors, hazardous cleaning solutions, contact with skin irritants, toxic exposure, nuisance dust, fumes, and sprays.
• Frequently (34-66%): Carrying up to 45 lbs, bending, balancing, stooping, reaching at waist or overhead, twisting of back and neck.
• Continuously (67-100%): Standing and walking on tile or concrete, handling, fingering, feeling, talking, seeing, hearing, smelling, contact with sharp objects.

Machines, Tools, and Equipment Utilized

• Cheese knives, knives, wrapper, scale, slicer, pricing gun, approved cleaning supplies and equipment, trash compactor (must be 18 for trash compactor use).

Working Conditions

Working environment is primarily inside and may include exposure to cold temperatures. Continuous movement of the entire body is required.

Pay

The hiring range for this position is $15.00 - $17.90 per hour.
