Carpenter Co. has an immediate opening for a Forklift Operator(Checker/Loader) in our Carpet Cushion Docks Department on 1st Shift [5am - 1pm] at our Elkhart, Indiana foam manufacturing plant. This position is responsible to perform final quality checks on finished product and load on trailers via forklift and handle the product by hand on the trailers per customer requirements. The pay rate for this position is $23.93 - $24.85 per hour. Carpenter Co. employees are committed to working hard to ensure production goals are met while maintaining operations excellence. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain daily communication with Docks Supervisor, Department Manager, Docks Lead and other employees in the department to make sure that all products being shipped will meet the requirements and specifications of the customer. Additional Responsibilities Of This Position: Manually load carpet cushion rolls and packages of foam weighing up to 80 poundsDrive a squeeze forklift to load carpet cushion rolls safely and efficiently on the docks Scan carpet cushion rolls with a hand scanner and check paperworkPrint labels from a computerRun manifests and bills of lading from a computerLoad and Check multiple docks simultaneouslyCommunicate verbally and with hand signals to your co-workers that you work in close proximity to you on the docks in a high forklift traffic areaLock out trailers/chock wheels before unloading and unlock once loading is completeAssist with InventoryInspect trailers for damageOther duties as assigned by your lead, supervisor or manager Skills/ Requirements: High School Diploma or General Education Degree requiredOne year of manufacturing or warehouse experience preferredForklift experience preferred and must be able to become in house forklift certifiedAbility to use computerized equipment in day to day operations Basic Reading, Writing, and Math skills requiredAbility to work safe in a fast-paced environmentAbility to walk up and down stairs Shift Hours: 5am - 1pm normal schedule, may work up to 10 hours a day as production demands during overtime periods.
