About the role
The Chassis Frame Engineer will support current and future body-on-frame design and development efforts for Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis vehicles. They will also assist with Body/BIW (body-in-white) structure development for electric vehicle platforms.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop frame structure(s), components, and systems for new vehicles, focusing on lightweight, high-strength steel and aluminum materials.
- Conduct research and analysis to identify key design requirements and develop innovative solutions for electric vehicle platforms.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure integration of body-on-frame structure systems with other vehicle subsystems, including battery systems and electric powertrains.
- Support and interface with manufacturing teams and design studios on vehicle development efforts.
- Develop and maintain engineering documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and validation reports.
- Create and manage a bill of materials, with updated weights at each stage of the vehicle development process.
- Provide technical guidance and support to other engineers and team members.
- Participate in benchmarking activities to study competitive OEMs' structural strategies.
- Create and modify 3D data and 2D drawings via CATIA V5 and other engineering tools.
- Liaise between North American affiliates and Korean headquarters.
- Update Management throughout the product lifecycle.
- Travel up to 25% of the time, both domestically and internationally.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in body-on-frame design and development.
- Experience in meeting structural requirements concerning impact, NVH, and durability focuses.
- Good working knowledge of vehicle structure design, material properties, and assembly processes.
- Knowledge of mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering design and processes.
- Knowledge of tooling design variables and processes, along with related materials.
- Innovative thinking and proactive approaches to the technical direction of structural components.
- Familiarity with CAD and 3D design tools, specifically CATIA V5.
- Adept in Microsoft programs, such as Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Excellent time management, self-management, and organization skills.
- Strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
