Chart Analyst

About the Role

Newport News Behavioral Health Center is a 108-bed intensive and highly structured residential treatment facility for the psychiatric and behavioral health needs of adolescent males and females ages 11-18. Located in Newport News, VA—a beautiful seaside city rich in maritime history and conveniently near DC and other major Northeastern cities—the center features an on-site certified school, therapists, and vocational programming.

Responsibilities

• Perform weekly audits on 100% of all open charts concurrently to ensure medical records documentation meets the requirements of regulatory agencies.
• Scan confidential medical forms and attach supporting documentation to patient records.
• Process Release of Information (ROI) requests in accordance with applicable confidentiality and compliance requirements.
• Create and organize medical record storage folders.
• Maintain and manage the department filing system.
• Collect, scan, and upload documentation into the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
• Develop and implement a system to evaluate whether education and in-service training initiatives are improving staff documentation practices.
• Gather required patient documentation and use charting systems to accurately scan materials into the appropriate patient record.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or Business field preferred.
• Knowledge of Virginia Medicaid billing and previous experience in medical records preferred.
