About the role
The Charlotte Checkers are seeking creative, motivated, and passionate Photography Interns for the 2026-27 season. This hands-on opportunity provides valuable experience within a premier AHL hockey organization and is ideal for students or recent graduates looking to build a portfolio in sports photography, digital content creation, and visual storytelling.
Timeline: September 2026 – April 2027 (or at the completion of Playoffs).
Responsibilities
- Capturing high-quality photography during home games, practices, community events, team functions, and special events
- Photographing players, coaches, fans, game action, entertainment, promotions, and behind-the-scenes moments
- Capturing photography for sponsorship proof of performance and partnership activation
- Editing and retouching photographs for use across digital and marketing platforms
- Preparing photo assets for social media, website, email marketing, print, and promotional materials
- Assisting with player headshots, portraits, team photography, and special photo projects
- Organizing, labeling, archiving, and maintaining digital photo libraries
- Supporting the Creative Services team with photo needs for marketing campaigns and game-day promotions
- Collaborating with staff to ensure photography aligns with the Icemen brand and visual identity
- Assisting with select game-day entertainment and content initiatives
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Photography, Graphic Design, Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, or a related field
- Housing and transportation in Charlotte or the surrounding area
- Availability to work home games, select road games, and designated office hours
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent creative software
- Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining high-quality creative standards
- Personal professional camera equipment and laptop preferred but not required
Qualifications
- Experience in sports, event, portrait, or digital photography
- A portfolio demonstrating strong photography and visual storytelling
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop and Lightroom
- Strong understanding of composition, lighting, color, and image editing
- Understanding of social media platforms and digital content trends
- Excellent attention to detail and creative storytelling abilities
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects
- Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills
- A positive attitude and willingness to collaborate as part of a team
Pay
This is a non-paid internship. School credit may be earned if applicable.
