Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate site activities for a small team of operatives
- Know, understand and follow construction drawings and ensure works are completed in accordance with project specifications and health & safety requirements
- Know, understand and follow the contract programme and report on progress to Line Manager
- Aid in the preparation and issue of Job Instructions and ensure Daily Point of Work Risk Assessment & Briefing Records are completed correctly
- Produce and deliver key job information to Line Manager
- Maintain accurate records of daily works, labour, and plant usage
- Complete in full and return all required paperwork timeously and correctly
- Organise daily work schedules and allocate tasks to team members
- Liaise with the Site Supervisor/Manager to report progress, issues, and resource requirements
- Ensure good housekeeping on site, in company yard and any vehicle provided
- Maintain plant, tools, and equipment in safe condition
- Monitor quality of workmanship and adherence to company and client standards
- Aid the Commercial Team/Site Manager during site visits with measurements as and when required
- Promote and enforce a positive health, safety, and environmental culture on site
- Assist with training and mentoring less experienced operatives
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Chargehand in the civil engineering industry
- Valid CSCS Card
- SSSTS/SMSTS – desirable
- Street Works – desirable
- CPCS Dumper and Roller – desirable
- EUSR – desirable
- Exceptional leadership and communication skills
- Ability to manage project deadlines effectively
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and ability to work independently or within a team
- Full UK driving licence
- Legal right to work in the UK without restrictions (no sponsorship available)
