Looking for a Charge Nurse to assist the Nursing supervisor in responsibility for total patient care within the nursing unit and the management of the unit. Pay rate: $35 to $41 per hour depending on experience and licensure, plus additional shift differentials for evening and weekend shifts.
Responsibilities
- Carry out administrative and patient care duties as part of shift responsibilities.
- Supervise and assume responsibility for the actions and care delivered by STNAs.
- Abide by department policies and procedures and interpret them to personnel, medical staff, patients, and the public.
- Work on the unit designated by the Director of Nursing (D.O.N.), Assistant Director of Nursing (A.D.O.N.), or Supervisor.
- Check 24-hour report sheet for changes/updates in patient care needs for the day.
- Make walking rounds and supervise nursing assistant care delivered.
- Administer medication (including IV) and treatment per physician orders specific to the patient.
- Attempt to meet the spiritual or psychological needs of the patient with available resources.
- Assist and direct in the admission/discharge process of patients.
- Give and receive shift reports to oncoming staff.
- Take and transcribe physician orders.
- Answer telephone inquiries.
- Evaluate patient care needs and condition, develop or update the plan of care for individual patients.
- Handle patient admission process when the documentation nurse is unavailable, including verifying physician orders, transcribing pre-admission information, arranging diagnostic and therapeutic needs, ordering medication/treatment, communicating dietary needs, and completing admission paperwork.
- Manage patient transfers and discharges, including arranging transportation, communicating with family/responsible parties, and completing necessary paperwork.
- Maintain appropriate documentation in the patient electronic medical record.
- Direct and assist with department cleaning and care of equipment/appliances.
- Communicate and collaborate with all departments to ensure teamwork.
- Maintain overall safety and cleanliness of the unit.
- Greet and direct visitors on the unit.
Requirements
- Valid Nursing license in the state where the facility is located.
- Responsible for meeting state-required continuing education hours per licensure period.
- Good physical and mental health.
- Sincere desire to work with the elderly.
- Willingness to perform non-professional duties.
- Ability to remain level-headed and take or give direction in an emergency situation.
- Ability to prioritize patient needs above personal desires or judgment.
- Serve as a patient advocate at all times.
