Verland is currently seeking a Charge Nurse to join our team in Sewickley, PA at our Main Campus. This is an hourly, non-exempt position.
About the role
The Charge Nurse leads a team of nurses in managing residents assigned on a given shift and is part of a team of professionals providing clinical care to Verland residents.
Schedule
Full-time, 36 hours per week:
- Week 1: 6:00 PM – 6:30 AM Wednesday / Thursday / Friday
- Week 2: 6:00 PM – 6:30 AM Thursday / Friday / Saturday
Responsibilities
- Performs comprehensive physical health assessments.
- Monitors and oversees others to ensure safe professional nursing practices are maintained.
- Responds to medical emergencies and provides care and treatment of residents in emergency situations.
- Controls the emergency scene in the absence of the primary care provider and decides whether the individual should be transported to the emergency room by EMS.
- Maintains emergency equipment and supplies in designated areas and ensures daily checks by nursing staff.
- Assists with planning, developing, coordinating, and evaluating nursing functions in the ICF.
- Educates and trains all levels of staff members and serves as a preceptor to new nursing staff.
- Assists new nurses with orientation, observes and provides feedback, plans learning experiences, and serves as a continued resource.
- Assists the Director of Nursing (DON) and Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) with supervision of nursing staff, delegates work assignments, and reviews nursing activities.
- Actively participates in Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) meetings to manage and coordinate healthcare.
- Attends annual staffing and ITR reviews as a contributing member of the IDT.
- Attends assigned meetings and makes regular rounds of assigned areas.
- Reviews physicians’ orders and Medication Administration Records to ensure medications/treatments are administered as ordered; notifies DON/ADON of exceptions, omissions, or errors.
- Administers and documents prescribed medications and treatments.
- Performs laboratory procedures as ordered.
- Documents care administered to individuals on a daily, monthly, and annual basis; ensures all assessments and documentation are completed by appropriate staff each shift.
- Responsible for calling in replacement staff in the event of a call-off; may seek assistance from ADON/DON if unable to fill the vacancy.
- Performs related duties as requested.
Requirements
- Ability to provide patient care, prepare and maintain records, organize and coordinate nursing activities, and interpret policies and procedures.
- Ability to interpret healthcare regulations, plan, assign, and supervise the work of others.
- Ability to interact appropriately with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities, family members, and staff.
- Ability to work independently and productively with all staff levels.
- Ability to comprehend individual records, physicians’ orders, and communicate information effectively.
- Ability to establish positive working relationships with IDT members.
- Ability to document individual care comprehensively, according to professional and legal standards.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current Pennsylvania RN licensure.
- At least two years of experience as a practicing RN in a health agency, hospital, or related healthcare facility.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Charge Nurse or management experience preferred.
- Must maintain a valid Driver’s License and complete all required clearances.
Pay
$7,500 sign-on bonus for new employees.
