About the Role

The Charge Registered Nurse (RN) leads and coordinates departmental operations to ensure high-quality patient care in a safe, healing environment. This role requires strong leadership, clinical expertise, and the ability to manage a team effectively.

Responsibilities

• Directs, reviews, assigns, and organizes the work of at least three (3) or more employees, including another Registered Nurse.
• Applies HPMC Nursing mission, vision, values, and behaviors in daily practice.
• Provides professional leadership and direction to department personnel to maintain efficient delivery of effective patient care.
• Coordinates departmental operations and delegates tasks appropriately.
• Models professional nursing practice and mentors staff.
• Champions new ideas and collaborates with others through the change process.
• Facilitates inter-professional/interdisciplinary communication and collaboration.
• Serves as a resource for clinical concerns and regulatory requirements.
• Adjusts staffing needs to ensure quality patient care, patient and staff safety, efficiency, productivity, and working conditions.
• Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
• Participates in activities related to patient flow, including admission and discharge processes.
• Confronts difficult or conflict situations constructively and seeks appropriate assistance.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) approved nursing program or equivalent curriculum.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Two years of RN experience in an acute care environment, including charge and/or preceptor responsibility.
• Valid California Registered Nurse (RN) License.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) or American Heart Association (AHA).
• S.T.A.B.L.E. Baby Assessment certification within 6 months of employment.
• Los Angeles County Fire Card within 30 days of employment.
• Assault Response Competency (ARC) certification within 30 days of employment.
