Department: Labor and Delivery • Full Time • 12-hour shifts • Dallas Regional Medical Center – Mesquite, TX

About the role

A Registered Nurse who is essential in maintaining a safe, efficient, and effective environment, ensuring that both patients and nursing teams are supported throughout the labor and delivery process.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable to the Department Director for the quality of nursing staff and delivery of patient care during the assigned shift; assists the Director in daily unit/department operations.
  • Provides direct communication with the Director and/or House Supervisor regarding unanticipated patient-care events and risk-management activities.
  • Utilizes nursing personnel effectively: scheduling, staffing, assignments, direction, supervision, and evaluation of staff and/or staff education.
  • Assists with performance evaluations, progressive discipline, and other HR-related activities as needed.
  • Assesses supplies and equipment availability, ensures proper use and functionality, and maintains par levels.
  • Collaborates with other department managers/supervisors to coordinate services, enhance patient flow, and streamline admission/discharge/transfer processes.
  • Assesses patient-care delivery and quality of care/documentation on a consistent basis; directs staff to adjust the plan of care to ensure patient safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Notifies the Department Director, House Supervisor, and/or Medical Staff as appropriate using the chain of command.
  • Interviews patients/families on admission and during rounds to enhance patient experience, provide unit orientation, and increase awareness of available services.
  • May perform direct patient care within scope of practice and clinical competency to ensure patient safety and appropriate nurse-to-patient ratios; documents temporary relief from Charge Nurse duties during such times.

Requirements

  • Current and valid state RN License.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree preferred.
  • BLS certification within 30 days of hire and maintain current.
  • NRP certification within 90 days of hire and maintain current.
  • Basic Fetal Monitoring certification within 60 days of hire and maintain current.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in a specialty setting.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Specialty certification within 2 years preferred.
