Charge Nurse ICU

About the role

The ICU Charge Nurse at North Alabama Medical Center provides clinical leadership and oversight of hospital operations during assigned shifts. They serve as the first line of support for nursing staff, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams, ensuring safe, effective patient care and adherence to nursing standards and rehabilitation philosophy.

Responsibilities

• Serves as the first line of support for nursing staff, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams
• Ensures safe, effective patient care and adherence to nursing standards and rehabilitation philosophy
• Carefully coordinates patient admissions, staffing assignments, and unit workflow
• Performs and supports accurate patient assessments, interventions, and documentation
• Monitors quality indicators (QIs) and supports performance improvement initiatives
• Communicates and escalates clinical concerns or unusual occurrences appropriately
• Supports staff education, development, and regulatory compliance
• Aids in staffing plans, scheduling, and management of nursing resources

Requirements

• Current state RN license
• Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred
• Current RN license in state of practice
• BCLS required; ACLS, PALS, and Handle with Care preferred

Qualifications

• Experience in critical care setting preferred
• Strong communication and leadership skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities
