About the Role

This advanced-level position serves as a lead nurse on the nursing unit, overseeing operations during an assigned shift. The Charge Nurse acts as a resource, provides guidance to staff, and may recommend improvements to the Nurse Manager and Nursing Supervisor. Responsibilities include delivering nursing care to mentally ill patients in an acute care hospital, liaising with physicians, reviewing staff work, documenting patient condition changes, administering medications, and responding to medical or psychiatric emergencies.

This position qualifies for an appointment incentive of $12,500 for the selected applicant who agrees to work at the facility for a minimum of twelve (12) months. The facility is tobacco-free, and chosen applicants must pass a chemical urinalysis and breath analysis drug and alcohol screening test. All employees are subject to drug and alcohol testing for probable cause as per agency policies.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the nursing unit during an assigned shift and act as a resource for staff.
  • Provide guidance and input to other staff members.
  • Make recommendations to the Nurse Manager and Nursing Supervisor for unit improvements.
  • Deliver nursing care to mentally ill patients in an acute care setting.
  • Serve as a liaison with physicians and review the work of licensed and non-licensed staff.
  • Document changes in patients' mental or physical conditions in medical records.
  • Administer medications and alert staff to medical or psychiatric emergencies.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Current valid West Virginia Registered Nurse (RN) Licensure.
  • Three (3) years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • For internal applicants: One (1) year of full-time or equivalent part-time experience as a Registered Nurse may substitute for the required experience.
  • Must be able to work holidays, weekends, and mandatory overtime.
  • Must successfully pass a background screening.
