Charge Nurse

Key Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct, administer, and record care given to residents
  • Communicate with family members regarding resident progress
  • Assist visiting physicians in rounds as needed
  • Draw blood and obtain fluids for lab work as needed
  • Record and monitor all progress of residents and communicate with physicians according to facility policies
  • Assist in dining area and with feeding as needed
  • Monitor work of other nursing staff in unit to ensure thoroughness and assist with tasks as needed
  • Use telephones to communicate with physicians, arrange transportation for doctor appointments, and contact families
  • Make rounds to ensure cleanliness and proper care to residents
  • Coordinate care of residents in accordance with their care plans
  • Effectively manage all nursing staff assigned to unit
  • Complete various reports as needed
  • Monitor personal and staff compliance to all State and federal requirements including blood borne pathogens, hazardous materials, infection control, and fire safety
  • Monitor personal and staff compliance to resident's rights
  • Assure that all medications and treatments are administered as ordered and in a timely fashion according to facility policies and schedules
  • Replace nursing staff that call in sick with additional staff
  • Help provide nursing services when sufficient staff cannot be attained

Qualifications

  • Valid Kansas nursing license in good standing with the State
  • Basic computer skills
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • Must be able to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations
  • Must be able to perform essential position functions with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Must use a transfer/gait belt or obtain assistance of another employee when assisting residents with lifting or carrying objects in excess of 25 pounds
  • Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the community
  • Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure requirements of this position can be fully met

  • Torquing: Frequently
  • Fingering: Constantly
  • Twisting, bending, crawling, squatting, kneeling, crouching, climbing and balancing may be required
  • Employees may be required to operate an automobile and various games
