About the role
This position serves as Sierra Club’s primary community organizing and advocacy presence in Imperial County, working to build long-term grassroots power and advance locally driven conservation, climate, public health, and environmental justice priorities.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategies to engage and mobilize local communities around environmental issues.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including elected officials, community leaders, and other organizations.
- Conduct outreach and education programs to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote solutions.
- Advocate for policy changes at the local, state, and federal levels that support environmental protection and justice.
- Collaborate with other Sierra Club chapters and national offices to coordinate efforts and amplify impact.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies, Public Policy, Communications, or related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in environmental advocacy, community organizing, or related field.
- Strong understanding of environmental justice principles and their application in local contexts.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with diverse groups.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with social media platforms.
Qualifications
- Experience working in a unionized environment is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Passion for environmental justice and a commitment to advancing equitable policies.
