Chaplain PRN

About the role

As a Chaplain, you will work with all hospital departments and personnel to provide spiritual guidance and emotional support during illness, injury and/or emergency to patients, family members, visitors, hospital staff, and physicians. As a member of the interdisciplinary care team, you will advocate for a patient- and family-centered approach in all decisions and actions and will demonstrate caring and empathy in all interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide visitations and spiritual support to patients, family members, and employees
  • Aim to reduce anxiety and fear, mediate conflict, and offer prayer when appropriate
  • Serve as a liaison to community churches and clergy members on behalf of the hospital, including the coordination of patient visits
  • Document services and significant interactions in the patient record
  • Function as a contact to the Ethics Committee
  • Provide assistance with crisis intervention measures where appropriate
  • Provide guidance with advanced directives and ethical issues of patients and families
  • Formulate programs and policies to meet the spiritual needs of the organization

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a hospital setting as a Chaplain – preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in area of expertise from an accredited institution
  • 1 unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) accredited by the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE)
  • Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) completed in a hospital setting – preferred
  • Masters of Divinity – preferred
  • 1 year of experience required
