About the Role

The Chaplain provides Spiritual Care within their local ministry, addressing the spiritual needs of patients, participants, residents, families, and colleagues. As a fully integrated member of the health care team, the Chaplain works alongside other caregivers to respond specifically to spiritual needs. The role involves developing, conducting, and participating in programs of spiritual care to promote healthy communities and facilitate the inclusion of faith leaders in the provision of Spiritual Care.

The Chaplain reports directly to the Spiritual Care Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver and facilitate transformative Spiritual Care experiences to patients, residents, participants, visitors, and colleagues across the healthcare continuum.
  • Ensure the religious beliefs, practices, and values of those served are honored and respected within the total healing process.
  • Assess religious and spiritual needs and provide interventions based on those assessments.
  • Document professional Spiritual Care assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic medical record.
  • Integrate the Spiritual Care dimension of healing as a full, clinical member of the inter-professional healthcare team.
  • Collaborate with the Spiritual Care Manager to measure, evaluate, and improve functional processes of Spiritual Care.
  • Foster generalized Spiritual Care by non-Spiritual Care colleagues through education and modeling.
  • Promote and implement programs of workplace spirituality for colleagues in collaboration with leadership.
  • Plan and implement programs of ongoing personal self-care and formation to maintain work-life balance and resiliency.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and policies to ensure adherence in an ethical and professional manner.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in theology, religion, spiritual care, or spirituality, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1 year or more of Spiritual Care experience, including CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) training.
  • Chaplaincy or Spiritual Care ministry experience preferred.
  • Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) strongly preferred via APC, CASC, NACC, or NAJC, including completion of a Master’s degree from a CHEA-accredited institution, 4 units (1600 hours) of ACPE-accredited Spiritual Care education, and faith-based endorsement.
  • Ability to plan, develop, and implement programs to meet departmental objectives and spiritual needs of patients and families.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English, with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to present effectively before groups.
  • Comfortable using clinical/medical terminology and proficient in Microsoft Office suite and relevant software programs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a shared leadership environment.
  • Personal presence characterized by honesty, integrity, and caring, with the ability to inspire others.
