Chaplain, Per Diem, MGH Spiritual Care Services

About the role

Responsible for providing spiritual care to patients, families, visitors, and staff. Patients are seen at the bedside or in outpatient settings as assigned. Involved in all aspects of care, including team meetings, family meetings, and goal discussions. Staff support is provided through 1:1 encounters and group gatherings in units and other locations as needed. Also charged with developing and leading hospital-wide and community faith-specific and interfaith services. Work as team members in accordance with the department's mission and vision statements.

Availability for overnight on-call and weekend shifts required. This is a per diem, rotating position.

Responsibilities

• Counsel individuals or groups concerning their spiritual, emotional, or personal needs.
• Share information about religious issues by writing articles, giving speeches, or teaching.
• Respond to requests for assistance during emergencies or crises.
• Visit people in homes, hospitals, or prisons to provide comfort and support.
• Administer religious rites or ordinances.
• Document encounters in a patient’s electronic medical record.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study required; graduate diploma preferred.
• Two or more units of Clinical Pastoral Education from an accredited training program (ACPE preferred).
• Preference for candidates who are board certified chaplains with APC, NAJC, or NACC.
• 2-3 years of experience in a hospital/healthcare setting or relevant spiritual, ministry, pastoral, congregational, or other experience.

Skills

• Knowledge of various religious practices, health care ethics, behavioral health, trauma-informed care, crisis response, and grief and bereavement counseling techniques.
• Ability to work independently with excellent organizational skills.
• Proficient at documenting encounters in electronic medical records and using Microsoft Suite.
• Proficient at multitasking with a high level of problem-solving skills.
• Excellent listening and verbal communication skills.

Pay

$27.95 - $40.70/hourly.

Additional Details

• Work location: 265 Charles Street, Boston, MA (onsite).
• Per diem, rotating shifts (including overnight on-call and weekends).
