About the Role

As our Chaplain, you will serve as a vital spiritual leader and compassionate caregiver within our hospital community, providing essential spiritual counseling and support to patients, families, and staff. You will offer compassionate presence, support, and appropriate rituals, especially during times of crisis or grief, while collaborating with the healthcare team to advocate for spiritual needs and integrate holistic care.

Responsibilities

• Deliver direct spiritual care appropriate to recipients' spirituality, culture, religious preference, and health status.
• Work closely and effectively with care managers, interdisciplinary care teams, social workers, nursing, and medical staff to provide spiritual care insights.
• Prepare timely, accurate, and thorough documentation in accordance with Virginia Mason Franciscan Health (VMFH) standards and procedures.
• Provide direct spiritual consultation and emotional support for staff experiencing work-related or personal stress, including private conversations while respecting work schedules.
• Collaborate with CPE students, volunteers, and local clergy to extend spiritual care services.
• Provide education and ethical consultation for patients, families, staff, and volunteers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and successful completion of four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (or in the fourth unit) upon hire.
• Enrollment in a Master’s degree in theology or an associated discipline recognized by a chaplaincy certifying body upon hire.
• Within 36 months of hire, achieve one of the following certifications:
  • Catholic Chaplain
  • Board Certified Chaplain (APC)
  • Certified Supervisor of Clinical Pastoral Education
  • BCC - Jewish Chaplain
  • BCC - Canadian Spiritual

You must be a highly compassionate individual, comfortable and skilled in engaging with people who may be emotional, panicked, stressed, or in pain, with the ability to provide empathetic care and adapt to diverse spiritual needs.

Pay

$32.38 - $53.43 per hour.
