Join UnityPoint Health as a Chaplain and provide compassionate spiritual and emotional support to patients, families, and team members of all faiths or none. In this role, you will offer spiritual care through assessment, crisis response, and end-of-life support, helping individuals navigate some of life’s most challenging moments. Working as part of an interdisciplinary care team, you will integrate spiritual needs into overall care planning to support healing, coping, and informed decision-making across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate spiritual care through assessments, interventions, and ongoing support for patients and families across care settings
• Respond to consultations involving crisis situations, end-of-life care, trauma, ethical concerns, and spiritual distress
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary care teams to integrate spiritual care into individualized patient care plans
• Document spiritual assessments and interventions accurately within the electronic health record
• Offer emotional and spiritual support to staff, including debriefings and critical incident response, to promote resilience and wellbeing
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and care planning discussions to address spiritual needs as part of holistic care
• Build and maintain relationships with community clergy and spiritual leaders to support patient and family needs
• Support hospital services, memorials, educational programs, and special events that foster compassion and connection
• Participate in on-call rotation and departmental quality improvement and competency activities

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree with a focus in divinity, theology, pastoral studies, or related fields required
• 1 Unit Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) required
• One (1) year of experience providing spiritual care required

Qualifications

• Board Certified Chaplain from one of the following organizations preferred within two (2) years of hire:
  • National Association of Jewish Chaplains
  • Association of Certified Christian Chaplains
  • Association of Professional Chaplains
  • Board of Chaplaincy Certification Inc.
  • National Association of Catholic Chaplains
  • National Association of VA Chaplains
  • Spiritual Care Association
• IL & IA Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in State(s) where providing care required within 90 days of hire
• IL & IA Adult Dependent Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing care required within 90 days of hire

Pay

$22.79–$34.19 per hour

Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
