Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.
- Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
- Maintain ministerial presence to patients and/or families while they are in Driscoll Children's Hospital.
- Respond to deaths at Driscoll Children's Hospital.
- Participate as part of interdisciplinary teams in the holistic treatment of patients.
- Facilitate the discovery and use of spiritual resources from the lives of patients and their families during their hospitalization.
- Be a liaison between special needs religious groups and local clergy support as needed.
- Provide spiritual and emotional support to DCH staff.
- Perform religious rites and sacraments as needed, e.g. funerals and weddings.
- Serve as resource person for local clergy.
- Perform clerical duties as needed.
- Ecclesiastical endorsement by a faith group.
- Must have strong interpersonal and written/oral skills to interact effectively with patients, patient's families, visitors, hospital and medical staff.
- Spanish speaking preferred.
- Able to safeguard confidences.
- Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Driscoll Children’s Hospital.
Qualifications
- Completed a B.A. degree or its equivalent from an accredited university/seminary.
- Pediatric experience preferred.
- Theological education from an accredited college or university which fulfills educational requirements for Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) in the Association of Professional Chaplains (Master of Divinity preferred) or in process.
- Satisfactory completion of 4 units of CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) or in the process, which fulfills clinical requirements for Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) in the Association of Professional Chaplains.
- Certification in the Association of Professional Chaplains or similar national certification organization within two years of hire or in process.
