Chaplain

About the Role

As our Chaplain, you will serve as a vital spiritual leader and compassionate caregiver within our hospital community, providing essential spiritual counseling and support to patients, families, and staff. You will offer direct spiritual, religious, and existential care, including compassionate presence, support, and appropriate rituals, especially during times of crisis or grief. You will collaborate with the healthcare team to advocate for spiritual needs and integrate holistic care while respecting diverse beliefs.

To succeed in this role, you must be a highly compassionate individual, comfortable and skilled in engaging with people who may be emotional, panicked, stressed, or in pain. You will need the ability to provide empathetic care, adapt to diverse spiritual needs, and communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct spiritual, religious, and existential care to patients, families, and staff, particularly during crises or grief.
• Minister to employees and physicians as needed and refer to the Employee Assistance Program or other resources when appropriate.
• Perform services that contribute to patient comfort and well-being in the hospital.
• Support an environment of hospitality and trust between caregivers and those served, promoting a community atmosphere.
• Refer patients to Social Services, Hospice, other chaplains, or community resources, including religious leaders, as needed.
• Demonstrate awareness and sensitivity to patient/visitor rights and act as a patient advocate.
• Facilitate communication between patients/families and the healthcare team.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including Social Workers, Care Coordinators, and Palliative Care nurses.
• Consult on ethical issues in alignment with the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services (USCCB).

Requirements

• MA or MDiv in Theology, Pastoral Care/Counseling, Divinity, or equivalent from an accredited institution.
• Understanding and ability to apply the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services (USCCB).
• Experience ministering in an acute care and emergency services setting to a multicultural, underserved, and disenfranchised population.
• Experience collaborating as a member of interdisciplinary teams.
• Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• Board Certified Chaplain (APC) upon hire.
• BCC - Jewish Chaplain upon hire.

Pay

$30.91 - $45.98 per hour.
