CHAPLAIN

Job Summary

The Chaplain provides ministry, spiritual guidance and support to patients, family members, caregivers and staff. Works in collaboration with the elected Spiritual Care Executive Committee members, Chaplain, Spiritual Care Supervisor and the Director of Volunteer Services to guide and direct the Volunteer Spiritual Care Program.

The Chaplain offers spiritual care to those with no specific affiliation/preference or no pastor available. Works in an interfaith environment using a non-denominational style of counseling. This position requires working with Volunteer Chaplains of many faiths serving a diverse population, and provides counsel to patients undergoing surgical procedures, facing end of life issues or involved in traumatic events.

This position requires full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of Blessing Hospital and Blessing Volunteer Services and Spiritual Care Department. It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Code of Conduct and I-CARE Standards while supporting the strategic plan of Blessing Health System.

Education/Training/Experience

• Required: Bachelor Degree
• Four Completed Units of Clinical Pastoral Education
• Bereavement education and experience
• Crisis intervention education and experience
• Ability to work closely in a trusting relationship with patients, hospital professionals, volunteer chaplains, and area clergy
• Denominational Endorsement Preferred
• Three years’ experience as a healthcare chaplain, strongly preferred
• Master of Divinity or related field
• Two years of full-time pastoral experience in parish ministry
• Volunteer spiritual care experience during parish ministry
• Experience working directly with volunteers, chaplaincy or spiritual care volunteers
• Ordination
• Certification by one of the national certifying organizations concerned with pastoral care in institutions, such as APC, ICPT, or CPEI
• Experience using healthcare documentation programs
• Proficient in Microsoft Office systems

PAY RATE
