About the Role

The Chapel Band Worship Leader will provide musical and spiritual leadership for McMurry University’s Chapel services, fostering a worshipful environment that enhances the spiritual life of the campus community. This role involves overseeing the planning, preparation, and delivery of worship music in collaboration with the University Chaplains and student musicians.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and lead weekly Chapel Band rehearsals, including:
    • Planning and preparing music for Chapel
    • Supporting student musicians in developing leadership through musical and spiritual growth
    • Recruiting, welcoming, and integrating new student musicians
    • Setting up portable sound systems and necessary equipment
  • Plan and lead worship music for weekly Chapel services (Tuesdays, 11am – 12pm), including:
    • Conducting sound checks with student musicians prior to Chapel
    • Facilitating all music during Chapel services
    • Coordinating tear-down and storage of equipment after Chapel
  • Provide administrative support for Chapel Band, including:
    • Preparing and distributing chord charts, lyric sheets, videos/audio files (using Song Select)
    • Inputting song selections into Planning Center Services
    • Coordinating with RSL Student Worker for lyric slides (using ProPresenter)
    • Maintaining, organizing, and advising on purchasing instruments, cables, and sound equipment
  • Meet periodically with Religious & Spiritual Life Staff for Chapel service planning.
  • Coordinate CCLI Reporting with Religious & Spiritual Life Admin Assistant.
  • Organize Chapel Band for special worship opportunities, including:
    • Welcome Week Chapel, Family Weekend Chapel, Final Ala Cumba Memorial Service (Homecoming), Night of Worship, and other campus events
    • Off-campus events such as “McMurry Sundays” at local congregations, youth camps, conferences, or other invited settings

Qualifications

  • Experience in worship leading and music ministry
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to mentor and collaborate with students
  • Ability to organize and lead rehearsals efficiently
  • Commitment to fostering a welcoming and inclusive worship environment
  • Flexibility and creativity in adapting to the needs of a diverse campus community

Education

  • Minimum: Some college hours
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Music, Worship Studies, or related field
