About the Role
The Worship Leader is responsible for the overall music ministry of the church. This person works closely in cooperation with the Pastor, choir, musicians and technical personnel to incorporate the musical aspect of worship. The primary focus is to praise God and inspire those in attendance. A ‘blended’ variety of musical styles shall be incorporated so as to appeal to all age groups.
Reports To
The Worship Leader is a salaried, part time position, working under the supervision and direction of the Pastor.
Responsibilities And Duties
- Plan and lead the music for all corporate worship services (primarily Sundays and Wednesdays)
- Organize and train the choir to achieve its highest potential
- Evaluate opportunities to create additional choirs or ensembles
- Encourage, recruit and equip lay volunteers to lead and/or assist as needed
- Conduct rehearsals so that the choir and musicians are properly prepared for worship
- Coordinate activities with other personnel (audio, video, church secretary) to allow them adequate time for preparation
- Present appropriately themed musical programs for events such as Easter, Christmas, revivals, etc.
- Coordinate and schedule soloists and groups to sing during worship
- Oversee the organization and upkeep of all music materials and supplies
- Coordinate any needed repairs or maintenance for the church’s musical instruments
- Prepare and submit an annual budget
- Make fill-in arrangements when unable to be present
Qualifications
- Adequate musical training and/or experience to assure competency in coordinating the total music ministries of the church
- Strong leadership and organizational skills
- Exhibit confidence and a positive image when addressing groups of people
- Possess effective communication skills, both oral and written
- Be neat in appearance
- Above all, demonstrate a strong faith and commitment to Jesus Christ, affirming the tenets of Baptist beliefs.
