About the role
LS Technologies, a Tetra Tech company, is seeking a highly skilled Change Management Engineer to support the planning, coordination, implementation, and governance of cloud infrastructure and application changes within the FAA enterprise environment. This position serves as a technical change management specialist responsible for ensuring cloud changes are properly engineered, documented, tested, authorized, implemented, and validated while minimizing operational risk to mission-critical FAA systems.
Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and execute cloud infrastructure and application changes across development, test, staging, and production environments.
- Manage the end-to-end change lifecycle, including change identification, impact assessment, technical review, approval, implementation, validation, and closure.
- Develop and maintain standardized Cloud Change Management processes, procedures, templates, workflows, and technical documentation.
- Evaluate proposed changes for technical dependencies, operational impacts, security implications, resource requirements, and potential mission impact.
- Coordinate changes across Cloud Engineering, DevOps, Cybersecurity, Network Engineering, Application Development, Operations, and FAA program stakeholders.
- Support Change Configuration Board (CCB) activities by preparing technical change packages, risk assessments, implementation plans, test results, rollback plans, and supporting documentation.
- Ensure changes comply with FAA policies, enterprise architecture standards, cybersecurity requirements, configuration management processes, and applicable Federal regulations.
- Develop detailed implementation, validation, and back-out/rollback plans for complex cloud changes.
- Establish and maintain change windows and coordinate implementation activities to minimize disruption to mission-critical systems.
- Monitor and validate changes after implementation to ensure systems, applications, security controls, and integrations remain operational.
- Support root-cause analysis for unsuccessful or emergency changes and identify corrective and preventive actions.
- Track change-related incidents, failed changes, emergency changes, and recurring changes to identify trends and opportunities for process improvement.
- Coordinate emergency and expedited changes while ensuring appropriate technical approvals, documentation, risk assessment, and post-implementation review.
- Maintain accurate configuration and change records within enterprise IT service management and configuration management systems.
- Support Configuration Management Database (CMDB) activities by ensuring cloud infrastructure components and configuration relationships are accurately represented.
- Work with engineering teams to establish standard, repeatable, and automated changes that reduce manual intervention and operational risk.
- Integrate change management practices into DevSecOps and CI/CD pipelines, ensuring infrastructure and application changes are appropriately governed without unnecessarily slowing development.
- Review Infrastructure as Code changes, including Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, or similar technologies, to assess implementation impact and change risk.
- Establish automated controls and approval gates for infrastructure deployments and production changes.
- Support version control and peer-review processes for cloud configuration and Infrastructure as Code repositories.
- Coordinate cloud changes involving AWS services, networking, identity and access management, security services, compute, storage, databases, containers, monitoring, and logging.
- Ensure cloud changes account for required cybersecurity controls, vulnerability remediation, security hardening, logging, monitoring, and compliance requirements.
- Support security-related changes involving services such as AWS Security Hub, GuardDuty, IAM, CloudTrail, Config, and other enterprise security capabilities.
- Coordinate changes associated with cloud platform upgrades, operating system updates, security patches, application releases, infrastructure modernization, and technology migrations.
- Develop dashboards, metrics, and reports to measure change success rates, failed changes, emergency changes, change volume, implementation performance, and compliance.
- Identify opportunities to automate repetitive change management activities using scripting, APIs, Infrastructure as Code, and DevOps tooling.
- Participate in technical design reviews and architecture discussions to ensure change management requirements are incorporated early in the engineering lifecycle.
- Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and development teams regarding cloud change management, deployment practices, documentation, and operational readiness.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives designed to increase deployment velocity, reliability, security, and operational stability.
- Assist with audits and assessments by providing evidence of change approvals, testing, implementation, validation, configuration management, and compliance.
- Support FAA mission systems by ensuring cloud changes are executed in a controlled, predictable, secure, and repeatable manner.
