About the Role

Kennesaw State University is accepting applications for a twelve-month administrative faculty position as a tenured Professor and Chair of the Department of Computer Science in the College of Computing and Software Engineering, with a preferred start date of January 1, 2027. This position is based in Georgia and involves providing leadership to the Department of Computer Science, promoting academic excellence, fostering research, and managing the unit’s budget.

Responsibilities

• Provide dynamic, effective leadership to the Department of Computer Science (CS).
• Boost the department's reputation and visibility, locally and nationally.
• Promote academic excellence, foster a strong research environment, and procure external funding.
• Establish the CS PhD reputation by setting high research and academic standards.
• Grow faculty research areas and attract strong PhD applicants.
• Mentor and advise faculty and students, enhancing research activities and academic achievements.
• Improve curriculum, retention, and graduation rates in CS and AI programs.
• Strategically manage enrollment growth and program development in the department.
• Advocate for the CS faculty and programs, ensuring their needs and goals are effectively represented.
• Manage the unit's budget, including making budget proposals, planning spending, and approving expenditures in line with state and university policies.
• Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOC Faculty Credentials Guidelines.

Requirements

• A terminal degree, or the foreign equivalent, in Computer Science or a related discipline with appropriate credentials to be a tenured Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Kennesaw State University (required at the time of hire).
• Evidence of a strong commitment to the Computing disciplines and a substantive record of scholarship and research leading to the procurement of external funding.
• Evidence of effective leadership experience.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work productively with faculty and students.
• Evidence of mentoring and advising early career faculty, undergraduate, and graduate students in research activities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to successfully develop and implement a strategic vision.
• Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with external business and professional communities, Advisory Board, and funding agencies.
• Working knowledge of ABET accreditation.
