About the role
The Chair of Emergency Medicine is a senior leadership role at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. This position is responsible for advancing the strategic, clinical, educational, and research missions of the department.
Responsibilities

- Serve as a key member of the institution’s leadership team
- Collaborate across disciplines to achieve strategic goals
- Establish the department as a national model for integrated academic and clinical excellence in Emergency Medicine
- Report directly to the Dean and work closely with the Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and other members of the Dean’s Executive Team
- Direct and coordinate the clinical, teaching, and research efforts within the department
- Build a strong, collaborative relationship with the school’s principal hospital affiliate
- Facilitate the growth and recognition of an academic medical center
- Serve as a role model and catalyst of intellectual attainment
- Advises on personnel matters
- Participates in activities of faculty committees
- Supports faculty pursuit of research and scholarly activity
- Develops and manages the departmental budget
- Advise the Dean on academic, clinical, and financial matters
- Supervise approximately 31 clinical faculty, 21 APPs, 1 Ph.D. researcher, and 5 staff members
Requirements
The ideal candidate should have:
- A strong track record of leadership and management in emergency medicine
- Experience in developing and implementing strategic plans
- Proven ability to foster collaboration and innovation
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
- Doctorate in Emergency Medicine or related field
- Board certification in Emergency Medicine
- At least 10 years of relevant experience in emergency medicine

- A Doctorate in Emergency Medicine or related field
- Board certification in Emergency Medicine
- At least 10 years of relevant experience in emergency medicine
