Chair - Emergency Medicine

About the role

The Chair of Emergency Medicine is a senior leadership role at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. This position is responsible for advancing the strategic, clinical, educational, and research missions of the department.

Responsibilities

• Foster excellence in patient care
• Advance innovative research
• Promote top-tier education and training programs
• Champion equity and inclusion
• Serve as a key member of the institution’s leadership team
• Collaborate across disciplines to achieve strategic goals
• Establish the department as a national model for integrated academic and clinical excellence in Emergency Medicine
• Report directly to the Dean and work closely with the Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and other members of the Dean’s Executive Team
• Direct and coordinate the clinical, teaching, and research efforts within the department
• Build a strong, collaborative relationship with the school’s principal hospital affiliate
• Facilitate the growth and recognition of an academic medical center
• Serve as a role model and catalyst of intellectual attainment
• Advises on personnel matters
• Participates in activities of faculty committees
• Supports faculty pursuit of research and scholarly activity
• Develops and manages the departmental budget
• Advise the Dean on academic, clinical, and financial matters
• Supervise approximately 31 clinical faculty, 21 APPs, 1 Ph.D. researcher, and 5 staff members

Requirements

The ideal candidate should have:

• A strong track record of leadership and management in emergency medicine
• Experience in developing and implementing strategic plans
• Proven ability to foster collaboration and innovation
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
• Doctorate in Emergency Medicine or related field
• Board certification in Emergency Medicine
• At least 10 years of relevant experience in emergency medicine

• A Doctorate in Emergency Medicine or related field
• Board certification in Emergency Medicine
• At least 10 years of relevant experience in emergency medicine
