About the role

The University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing is seeking a Chair for the Department of Nurse Anesthesia. The DNP Nurse Anesthesia program prepares students through coursework that develops knowledge and skill in anesthesia practice, organizational and leadership skills. The rigorous curriculum includes courses on the chemistry and physics of anesthesia, advanced pharmacology, advanced physiology and pathophysiology, principles of anesthesia care, anesthesia technology, team training, patient safety, and the professional role.

This is a full-time, tenure- or appointment-stream faculty position available at the Assistant, Associate, or full Professor rank. The role combines leadership, teaching, research/scholarship, and service responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the overall function of the Department of Nurse Anesthesia.
  • Liaise with the Office of the Dean and other administrative groups on matters related to department faculty and staff.
  • Lead Department of Nurse Anesthesia faculty meetings and oversee the assignment of department courses.
  • Create opportunities and provide support for Nurse Anesthesia faculty development activities.
  • Mentor faculty in research and quality improvement projects.
  • Interview faculty candidates and provide input on their potential contributions to the department in research, teaching, and strategic planning for individual faculty development.
  • Additional duties as assigned based on department needs.

Requirements

  • Board certification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).
  • Unencumbered license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (or an unencumbered multi-state license from a compact state).
  • Proven administrative capabilities in leading and managing academic and curricular activities, including didactic and clinical graduate courses.
  • Experience conducting independent research/scholarship.
  • Leadership skills in teaching, research/scholarship, and service.
  • Doctoral degree.
